What Is an Energy Management System (EnMS)?

An Energy Management System (EnMS) is a systematic framework based on the ISO 50001:2018 standard that empowers organizations to establish energy policies, set targets, and achieve continuous efficiency improvements. Under the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act (EECA) 2024, affected installations are required to establish and maintain an EnMS to monitor energy intensity. 1. How long does it take to get ISO 50001 certified?
Typically 6 to 12 months. This includes Gap Analysis, Documentation, and the Implementation Phase (generating 3 months of data). Final Certification is optional as EECA does not make it compulsory.

2. Is ISO 50001 mandatory under EECA 2024?
The Act requires an EnMS framework. We may choose either ISO 50001 or EMGS. While obtaining the actual certificate is voluntary, adopting the framework is required for legal compliance.

3. Can Techikara Engineering issue the ISO 50001 Certificate?
No. Consultants build the system. Certificates are issued by a Certification Body (CB) like SIRIM. We guide you until you pass their audit.

4. What is the cost of an ISO 50001 consultation?
It varies by size and complexity, but it is often recoverable through energy bill savings. Studies show just having an EnMS can save at least 5% of energy.

5. We already have ISO 9001/14001. Is this easier?
Yes! ISO 50001 follows the same "High-Level Structure" (HLS). We can integrate Energy Management into your existing systems to save time.

6. Who needs to be involved in the EnMS?
Top Management support is mandatory. You also need an Energy Committee including Facility Managers, Production Managers, and Procurement Officers.

7. Does EnMS software come with this service?
No, but we can help you select the right monitoring tools. We often recommend digital monitoring hardware for real-time data.

8. What happens if we fail the certification audit?
